Pretty Poppies

I hope you all had a nice weekend - I did. The Annual Gem & Mineral Show was on Saturday. I've been an avid collector of mineral specimens since I was 12 years old - I love how spectacular Mother Nature can be in her stunning creations. I am always in such amazement of the pieces I see on display. You can actually see one of the specimens called 'Okenite' in the first photo share. Soon Mother Nature will be in full bloom with spring finally here! Well, that's me being optimistic :)

For my shares today, I have some artwork featuring the stunning 'Pleasant Poppies' stamp set. I don't know about you, but poppies are one of my favourite flowers. I always look forward to late spring, early summer when it's time for them to bloom. I only wish that they bloomed longer and more frequently. The most they've ever bloomed is twice a season for me anyways. So I created these art pieces so I can enjoy them all year.

This first share is a framed piece - I stamped the image twice in Black Stazon. I added sponged Soft Sky clouds to my background and the sentiment "The earth laughs in flowers" to the top of my frame... I love that saying and I only wish it would laugh all year long! I coloured the stems in with a Wild Wasabi Stampin' Write Marker and the poppies with Calypso Coral and Tangerine Tango - with some dazzling details in the poppy centers. I cut out some of the poppies and popped them up on a dimensional - for some added interest to the piece.

After Christmas I picked these chipboard letters (my initials) to display in my craft room wall. I had the idea a while back to use the Pleasant Poppies stano and a couple of weeks ago I finally got some time to complete my project.

I traced the letters onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock and cut the letters out. I then stamped the poppies onto the Whisper White letters I had just cut out. Next, I stamped the poppies again onto some more Whisper White cardstock and coloured and cut them out. I opted for a variety of colours, as poppies do come in an assortment of colours... especially the Icelandic Poppies. I used Crushed Curry/Daffodil Delight, Pool Party/Tempting Turquoise, Wisteria Wonder/Perfect Plum, Calypso Coral/Tangerine Tango and Pink Pirouette/Blushing Bride marker combinations to colour the poppies! I wanted the poppies, even if they didn't completely stamp onto the letters, once I added the coloured bloom it would appear as though they did. I cut some of the stems to run through the center of the 'B' so that it wasn't just a floating poppy bloom, I couldn't do that with the 'R' as there was nothing to attach the stem too!
