Now, I'm never excited to make a sympathy card... but, sometimes it's necessary and I want them have a beautiful card to know that I'm thinking of them. I think the 'World of Dreams' stamp set from the Annual Catalogue is so stunning with the lovely sentiments and beautiful silhouette images. They are very fitting for a sympathy, get well or thinking of you cards. They could work for other occasions also, but I needed to make some sympathy cards so that's what I'm sharing today.
I started with a base card of Basic Black, 8-1/2" X 5-1/2", scored at 4-1/4". I cut a Whisper White layer for the inside of the card, measuring 4" X 5-1/4", since the card base is black it might be difficult to write a message without a white or metallic pen. I knew that I wanted to use the oval framelits to cut out my stamped image. Then I thought it might be nice to make a window-type card.
Before cutting my window on the front of my card, I adhered a piece of 'Adventure Bound' designer series paper to the front. I just love this paper stack, with the photo-like designs and the flipside being plaids, tweeds and textured designs - great for cards like this and more masculine cards too which is always nice. I decided to use the birch bark design to make it look like a hole in a tree and the little birdies are inside. That's where I got the idea for this card from anyway! I tried to find where to put the sentiment, but I didn't want to cover up too much of that lovely birch bark paper, so I made a suspended sentiment over my window. But how to attach it??? I decided to make a frame by using the same size framelit as the window, and the next larger one to make a frame in Basic Black to adhere around my window opening. I punched a small hole on either end of my sentiment and weaved a piece of Baker's Twine through and secured the end of twine with a mini glue dot and attached the frame overtop to hide the ends. I used the Modern Label Punch, which I punched two, the second is attached with dimensionals to hide the twine that is weaved through the back for a more finished look on the inside when the card is open.
Here's the card opened up...
Here's a closer look at the suspended sentiment...
I added a few flowers over where the twine was attached just in-case some of the threads peeked through. Plus, it adds a bit more interest to a more simple card. I'm pleased with how it turned out, I hope you like it!
